If you’re planning to sell your MacBook Air 15 M3 512GB, preparing it properly ensures a smooth transaction and protects your personal information. Follow these steps to get your device ready for sale.
Back Up Your Data
Before erasing anything, back up all important files and documents. Use iCloud, an external drive, or a cloud service to save your data. This way, you won’t lose anything valuable during the reset process.
Sign Out of iCloud and Apple Services
To prevent issues for the new owner, sign out of iCloud, iTunes, and the App Store. Navigate to System Preferences > Apple ID, then select Overview and click Sign Out. Follow the prompts to complete the process.
Deauthorize Your Computer
If you have authorized your MacBook with iTunes or Music, deauthorize it. Open the Music app, go to Account > Authorizations > Deauthorize This Computer. Enter your Apple ID credentials when prompted.
Erase Your MacBook
To securely erase your device, restart your Mac in Recovery Mode by holding Command + R during startup. Once in Recovery, select Disk Utility. Choose your startup disk (usually named “Macintosh HD”) and click Erase. Confirm the action.
Reinstall macOS
After erasing, exit Disk Utility and select Reinstall macOS. Follow the on-screen instructions to install a fresh copy of macOS. This ensures the device is clean and ready for the new owner.
Finalize the Sale
Once reinstallation is complete, shut down the MacBook. Clean the device physically, removing dust and fingerprints. Prepare any accessories, such as the charger or original packaging, to include with the sale. Finally, verify that all personal data has been removed before handing over the device.
